How to get there:
From Manciano, follow the signs for Saturnia. At the intersection, stay on SP 10 (Follonata) and after 2.5 km, turn left towards Usi. Continue until you see signs for the archaeological site, which will be the same as those for Agriturismo La Pelligrina.
Info for visitors:
The site is free to enter and always open.
The Necropolis of Puntone is a magical place filled with lush vegetation. Of the many burial sites that surround the center of Saturnia, Puntone was one of the closest to the town and was separated only by the river Albegna. Explored and plundered extensively until the 1800’s, it consists of thirty burial chambers and a dozen marked graves, apparently arranged without any precise order. Having always been cleared and visibile, these tombs were sometimes re-used as storage for tools or shelter for animals even in recent times. Although varied in size, the tombs are very similar and built with large slabs of travertine: the inner chambers consist of a square room with a central partition to support the roof slabs and were accessed through a corridor.
