Chiesa santa maria maddalena

Overlooking Piazza Diaz, the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena is of Romanesque origin but has been restored and modified over the centuries. Inside is a 15th century painting by Benvenuto di Giovanni depicting the “Madonna con il bambino fra San Sebastiano e Santa Maria Maddalena” (Madonna with child between San Sebastian and Saint Mary Magdalene). The work is characterized by a refined elegance, subtle color, and lighting effects obtained from studied shots in white lead. It is set in an imposing processional, made of carved, painted and gilded wood most likely from the first half of the nineteenth century, perhaps out of a Sienese workshop.
